Governor Roy Cooper recently announced that his request for a federal major disaster declaration as a result of Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 was granted. This means that four counties, including Brunswick County, will be able to seek public assistance funding from FEMA. It was also announced that the Small Business Administration (SBA) is offering low-interest disaster loans to businesses and residents in Brunswick County who were impacted by the storm.
Public assistance (PA) funding goes to public entities (like the Village) and can fund the repair, restoration, reconstruction, or replacement of a public facility or infrastructure, which is damaged or destroyed by a disaster. The Village has already begun the process of evaluating the facilities and infrastructure damaged by PTC 8. Preliminary estimates have been made on the damage costs, which may be eligible for public assistance funding.
The SBA has opened a Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) to assist Brunswick County business owners and residents in completing their disaster loan application, accept documents, and provide updates on an application’s status. Walk-ins are accepted, but you can schedule an in-person appointment in advance (HERE). The hours of operation for the Center are as follows:
