Contractor Services

The Village’s Contractor Services Department facility’s business hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. All sales must take place during business hours. The building closes at 4:30 p.m.

The Development Services Administrator provides professional planning and building inspection services to the residents of Bald Head Island as well as the many boards, committees, other Village Departments, and Village Council.

Finance

The Finance Department provides financial information and guidance to the Village Council Members and establishes and maintains an accounting and reporting system in accordance with North Carolina General Statutes, federal laws and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles.

Our Human Resources Department has a full range of responsibilities including recruitment and selection, employee relations, position classification, competitive compensation, benefits management, employee training, employee development, personnel records management, wellness, safety, risk management and administering payroll services.

The Information Technology department is responsible for supplying and maintaining the Village’s information system and any other digital needs. The system is comprised of computers, servers, software, network wiring, switches, wireless, firewalls, VPN, security video and more.

Island Package Center & Post Office

The Village of Bald Head Island Package Center & Post Office is the destination for all of your incoming mail and packages. We operate as a contract postal unit of the United States Postal Service. In addition to receiving and distributing inbound packages, we also sell stamps, shipping supplies and will help you prepare your package for shipment. We ship via USPS and UPS. We also accept pre-paid packages from UPS and FedEx.

Public Safety

The Department of Public Safety is charged with ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents, employees, and visitors to the island as well as the security and safety of the properties on the island. All Public Safety Officers are required to become certified in law enforcement, firefighting and as an EMT or paramedic. In addition, they must be trained in water rescue.

Public Works

The Village’s Public Works Department maintains the Village’s public parks, roads, right-of-way, buildings, and equipment. Public works staff pick up yard debris, clean the beach of debris, collect trash from receptacles at the public accesses, repair and maintain the Village’s beach accesses and signage, and perform other various duties for the Village. The Public Works Department also oversees the recycle center located at the Public Works facility.

Shoreline Protection

Shoreline Protection is a comprehensive approach to coastal management which is designed to mitigate the effects of ocean currents, waves, and storms. The Village monitors the island’s various coastal interfaces through a “best practice” approach and seeks to enhance dunes and promote a robust shoreline. There have been several peer-reviewed publications that describe how wide beaches with established vegetated dunes have protected property during significant storm events.

Utilities

The Village’s Utilities Department provides the Village’s water and sewer utilities. Customers are advised to sign up for the Village’s emergency notification system, CODE RED, to receive important information about the Village utility services. Make sure that when you sign up, you use your Bald Head Island address. The Village can send messages out to only the affected areas if there is a service interruption.
