According to the latest briefing from the National Weather Service Wilmington Office, the area of low pressure off the coast may still become a subtropical or tropical storm before landfall today. The storm is expected to weaken as it lifts away to the north-northwest tonight into Tuesday. The BHI area is currently under a flash flood warning.
Due to weather-related ferry service interruptions, Village Hall and Public Safety office staff are working remotely today (9/16). Please call or email Village Staff for assistance (Directory: https://villagebhi.org/contact/). The Island Package Center & Post Office will open today at 10 a.m. with limited staff. The barge is suspended, and ferry service interruptions will likely impact mail and package delivery today. Folks are advised to stay off the roads if possible as they are ponding and wind gusts will cause falling limbs and debris.
Public Safety, Public Works, and Utilities crews are on the island to respond to calls for service. Public Works and Utilities is checking roads for downed trees and diverting ponding water in critical areas. Please call 911 if you need a Public Safety Officer to come to you.
