Impact on Water Pipes:
Please review our tips for preventing and thawing frozen pipes HERE.
While the Village is not recommending it, a few of our customers have had their service disconnected as a precaution. If you have had your water service disconnected in the past, you must let the Utilities Department know by Friday, December 12, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. (call 910-457-9700 ext. 1000 or put in an online service request (HERE). The Village will not do disconnects after hours or on weekends and holidays. A reconnection fee of $67.99 will apply if you disconnect your service.
Other winter weather tips include:
- Prepare your home to keep out the cold with insulation, caulking, and weather stripping.
- Clean out gutters.
- Make sure carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms are working.
- Gather supplies in case you need to stay home for several days without power (medication, pet supplies, extra batteries, radios, flashlights, blankets, etc.)

Possible Closure of the Timber Bridge:
Public Works and Public Safety personnel have been monitoring the Timber Bridge and will continue to do so during severe cold weather conditions. The wear deck and timber will become slicker than pavement when temperatures drop, and intermittent closures of the bridge may be necessary due to safety concerns. When the bridge is closed, drivers will need to use the section of Keelson Row where the barge landing is located.
