Daylight Saving Time

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 2:00 a.m., when clocks will spring forward one hour. The change aims to provide more daylight in the evenings.  Many clocks change automatically, but for those that don’t, you might want to set them before you go to bed on Saturday night.

It’s also a good time to schedule an appointment to have your monitored smoke detection system checked by your alarm service provider.  Effective January 1, 2009, all new residential construction and renovated residential structures must have monitored smoke detection systems. Your alarm system should be inspected regularly. Doing so could help reduce the number of false alarms that the Department of Public Safety is dispatched to when there isn’t a fire.

For more information, view our guide HERE.

Spring forward on Sunday.

ICE Vehicle & Trailers

Village staff hosted an ICE Vehicle & Trailers Town Hall to present a few areas of the Village ordinances that will need to be updated and to receive feedback from contractors on the proposed changes.  The town hall was well attended. The Village is accepting comments from contractors through Friday, March 14, 2025.  We will be having two more town halls to receive feedback from property owners and HOA/POAs, and island business owners.  The town hall for property owners and HOA/POAs is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18. Details can be found in “Reminders & Events” below.

Hydrant Flow Testing

Sunland Fire Protection was expected to conduct hydrant flow testing on the island earlier this month.  That has been postponed to the week of March 17-21.  Specific locations of the testing are not available at this time. If the Village is able, we will notify property owners in the impacted areas via a CodeRED notification. Fire hydrant testing like this ensures the ability to provide water at an acceptable pressure and flow rate for public health and firefighting operations.

If you experience discolored water, refer to our fact sheet on discolored water HERE.

Hydrant flow testing is taking place from 3/17 to 3/21.

Golf Cart Registrations

Golf cart registration renewals were due on January 1, 2025.  Public Safety Officers are issuing citations for expired/unregistered golf carts. If you have not yet registered your cart(s), please do so as soon as possible, you can only do it online HERE.  Please remember to include your insurance information, mailing address, and VIN.  Entering “on file” or “same as last year” is not acceptable.

If you have any specific questions about the annual registration process, please contact Elizabeth Gray, Administrative Assistant, at 910-457-5252 or by e-mail at psadmin@villagebhi.org.

  • Provide realistic options based on what is available on the market.

A second ICE Vehicle & Trailer Town Hall is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Department of Public Safety.  A third town hall for island business owners will be scheduled, stay tuned for details.

Shredding Event

An island-wide shredding event is taking place on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Marina Park. All islanders are invited to bring their shredding material in a standard “banker’s box’ sized box for confidential shredding and destruction.  Businesses with multiple boxes will cover the cost of the shred truck on a pro-rata basis.  The cost for the shredding for individuals is $10 per box with all net proceeds benefiting the BHI Conservancy.

FY26 Budget Preparation

Like last year the Village will assist taxpayers in keeping up with the budget process by placing all the meeting/workshop information, documents, and resources in one place.  Our “Annual Budget” webpage can be found HERE.  Taxpayers will have access to the budget schedule, video of the budget workshop(s), presentation slides, meeting minutes, and any additional information produced as part of the Council’s deliberation on the FY26 budget.  Taxpayers are encouraged to submit questions and comments.
