Village Terminates its State of Emergency

The Village has terminated its State of Emergency effective 5:00 p.m. today (February 3, 2026).

Water Service Update:

As of 4:00 p.m., Village Utilities has resolved all but a small number of leaks.  Water pressure on the island has greatly improved. We still want Islanders to conserve water usage until all is repaired.  The system pressure advisory  (SPA) is still in effect.  We hope to have lab results as early as tomorrow afternoon.  Consumers will be notified as soon as we have repaired all leaks (conservation request will then end) and when the SPA is rescinded.  Thank you for your patience.

Ferry Service:

Here is the latest from BHI Transportation, Inc.:

2/3/26 @ 3:35 p.m. – Beginning Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, all ferry operations will resume normally scheduled operations. Due to some remaining icy roads on the island, Tram and luggage service will resume beginning with the 10:30 a.m. departure from the Deep Point Terminal and all remaining times thereafter.

Village Operations:

Village offices, including the Island Package Center and Post Office, will be operating on normal hours tomorrow (2/4).  Barge delays this week are going to impact package pickup times.  Please check the status of your package online HERE.

GFL did not make it to the island today. With improved conditions on the island and ferries operating normally, they are expected to start this week’s trash pickup tomorrow (2/4).

The Village Council regular meeting is still on schedule for tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.  Per our recent Public Notice, this will be a remote meeting with some Council members attending in-person (so the public is welcome to join us in the multi-purpose room at the Department of Public Safety) and some remotely via Zoom.

If you plan on listening-in via Zoom, please use your Zoom manners and make sure your mic is muted.  We want the Council members attending remotely to be able to speak freely. No need to turn on your camera. Only Council member cameras will be left on if they are able to use them. Thanks!

In Appreciation:

The Department of Public Safety had a 13-person crew (including PSO Shaw taking the photo above), who were on duty for the duration of Winter Storm Gianna. Some were on the island since Friday AM when they arrived for their shift. They did what it took to clear the roads so they could respond to emergencies when they arise, and kept decision-makers informed of island conditions. They get all the credit for most of the photo gallery photos. THANK YOU!

Public Works and Utilities crews are still working on recovery efforts such as water restoration, road clearing, cleanup of debris, etc. We want to THANK THEM as well for all their hard work, and if they are not camera shy, we’ll snap a photo of them to share when it’s all done!
