Ferry Service

Below is the latest announcement from BHI Transportation, Inc.

LIMITED SERVICE – WEDNESDAY 9/18/24: Ferry service is planned to resume Wednesday morning at 10:00 am from Deep Point and will run as conditions allow until a final departure from Bald Head Island at 5:30 pm. One ferry will be operating, and all passengers will be boarded on a first come, first served basis. Due to continued hazardous road conditions on the island, tram service is not available. We appreciate your patience as we safely resume service. Please continue to monitor the website and mobile app for further updates.

Please note:

  • The Village is still under a State of Emergency and coming to the island is not advised at this time. Getting around requires wading through deep water to get to most places.
  • The Department of Public Safety is only for medical and fire response. No personal transport requests will be granted.
  • Barges will not run again today; this means supplies on the island are limited.

Stormwater Pumping

Both 10-inch pumps have been pushing water off the island through the ocean outfalls since 6:00 p.m. last night.  The Village is still strategically placing pumps in areas where the pumps will work most efficiently to get stormwater off the island.  Please note, that the Village does not pump water on private property and is not positioning pumps at the request of property owners.  If you are on the island, please stay off the roads as this is slowing down our stormwater management response. Please also be patient and take the opportunity to voluntarily evacuate if you do not feel safe and can make your own way to the ferry landing.

Grinder Pump Alarms

Village Utilities is aware that grinder pump alarms are going off island-wide. The alarm should shut off automatically when the flood water recedes. If your alarm is going off at your residence, please limit your water usage (no running of dishwashers and washing machines and no long showers).

Village Offices Closed

Village offices remain closed today with office staff working remotely.  You may contact them by email or phone (directory). The Island Package Center and Post Office is closed today due to limited ferry runs and suspension of the barge.
