At approximately 4:43 p.m. this afternoon, the Bald Head Island Department of Public Safety was dispatched to respond to a structure fire on Dowitcher Trail. Upon arrival, the two-story structure was reported as fully involved. Mutual aid was dispatched, and the Southport Fire Department, Oak Island Fire Department, and Brunswick County EMS arrived to assist.
The fire was reported under control at approximately 6:15 p.m. The home was not occupied and the homeowner has been contacted.
Duke Energy shut off power to a majority of BHI customers to assist with the fire suppression. The power was restored at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The Village wishes to thank all the area agencies who assisted in the efforts to suppress and contain this fire. The Village also expresses its gratitude to Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc. for their assistance in transporting crews on the ferry and tram.
Brunswick County Fire Mashal’s office has been contacted and will be conducting an investigation as soon as possible.
