The National Weather Service Wilmington Office is predicting that Hurricane Erin will make a turn to the north through mid-week and move across the western Atlantic, staying off to the east of the Carolinas (latest briefing HERE).
While there is no immediate threat of damaging winds or rain, strong swells from Erin will impact the coastline for most of the upcoming week, producing life-threatening surf and rip currents.
In response to these potential impacts, the Village of Bald Head Island Department of Public Safety is advising no swimming in the ocean effective today (Tuesday, August 19, 2025) through Friday (August 22, 2025). It is expected that conditions will improve before the weekend. If this changes, the Village will release additional information.
As always, beachgoers are advised to “Know Before You Go” and to check the current beach forecast HERE before swimming in the ocean.
