Before staying on the island, visitors are encouraged to check with their medical and/or health insurance providers to see if telehealth options are available in case a medical issue arises.

Visitors and residents of Bald Head Island may also seek medical care at the on-island medical provider.

Patients may also call the Urgent Care in Southport at 910-454-4732 for minor illnesses M – F, 8:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

The Emergency Department at Dosher Memorial Hospital is a five-minute drive from the Bald Head Island ferry terminal in Southport.

Dosher Clinic on BHI ceased operations after the 2024 season.

In summer 2024, visits declined to less than 30.  Due to this change, Dosher felt they could better support BHI through education and outreach opportunities while reaching more residents and visitors.  This means that Dosher will no longer have an on-island clinic.

Dosher continues to provide outreach to residents and visitors on BHI.  In 2025, they conducted a community wellness seminar, attended Public Safety Day, shared their Master Facility Plan at the August Village Council meeting, and offered a flu clinic in October.

For 2026, Dosher plans to provide the following outreach:

• May 13, 2026 – 10:00 a.m. – Community Seminar on Fall Prevention – in the multi-purpose room at the Department of Public Safety.

Prescription Medications

Other than shipping and mailing of medications to the Island Package Center and Post Office, the Village does not take part in the delivery of medications to the island.

If you need to get your medications over to the island, here are a few options:

1. Use mail delivery where applicable.
2. Reach out to family/friends/neighbors.
3. Reach out to Project Longevity – they may be able to get you in touch with a home health practitioner who can assist, for a fee.
4. Reach out to the Village Chapel administrator – they may be able to assist.
5. Maritime Market has partnered with Galloway-Sands Pharmacy in Southport to deliver prescriptions to the island. Deliveries are made each Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and are available for pick-up at the Market after 10 am.  There is NO CHARGE for this service from either Galloway-Sands or the Market.  All prescriptions must be prepaid directly with the pharmacy, and when ordering, please specify either delivery to the island or self-pick-up at the pharmacy.
