Trash Collection
Trash collection is twice a week between Memorial Day and Labor Day (in-season) and once a week between Labor Day and Memorial Day (off-season). Pick-up is performed by the Village’s solid waste contractor. The Village is split into two pick-up routes, so pick-up days vary based on the area serviced. In-season pick-ups are on Mondays and Thursdays for the “green” route and Tuesdays and Fridays for the “yellow” route. Off-season pick-up days are on Monday and Tuesday. See THIS MAP for the designated routes or THIS calendar for a trash pick-up schedule.
Please make sure you use your yes/no sign and that it is visible from the street (not blocked by anything like vegetation). If you have trash you must turn your yes/no sign to yes, if you do not, leave on no. If the sign is not yes, the garbage truck will not stop. If you lose your sign or need a new one, you can pick one up at Public Works. If you feel that your house has been missed, you may contact GFL/Waste Industries at (910) 253-4177. Depending on the timing of your call and other factors, the truck may be able to come back and do a pick-up. You will be asked to make sure that your sign is on yes and that it is visible.
New homes: Once your home has received its certificate of occupancy (CO) our Development Services Department notifies Brunswick County Landfill & our solid waste contractor that your home has been added to our pick-up route. The builder should have constructed the trash receptacle shelter and the receptacle will need to be purchased by the homeowner (most purchase one at Island Hardware). The homeowner will need to pick up a yes/no sign at Public Works.
Excess Household Trash
Excess household trash may be disposed of at the trash compactor located outside of the Public Works facility. Up until winter 2024, there will be 24/7 access to the compactors. In winter 2024 the Village will begin closing the gate from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. daily. The compactors are not meant for paint, lawn chairs, construction debris, or yard debris. Please help the Village keep this area clean.
