Wilmington Harbor Maintenance Dredging Project – Great Lakes Dredge & Dock ceased dredging operations and sand placement on the morning of April 6, 2021. Sand disposal reached the east side of the Shoals Club. The demobilization could take a couple of weeks, so please be mindful of the equipment and pipe that remains on the shoreline.
Duke Energy Siren Test – Duke Energy will be testing sirens around Brunswick Nuclear Plant. A five to 30-second test is scheduled between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. No public action is required. More info HERE.
Barge Service – Barge service has been suspended again beginning today (4/9) through Wednesday, 4/14 for maintenance to the ramp at the BHI Marina. The Village will not be collecting any bulk items, including donations, until Monday, April 19, 2021, in order to ensure the refuse that is currently on the island is removed as soon as the barge resumes service.
Volunteer Opportunity with Bald Head Woods Reserve – New members are needed for each of the NC Coastal Reserve’s ten sites, including Bald Head Woods Reserve. Community members with knowledge and experience in the topical areas as related to a reserve site and an interest in serving as a Local Advisory Committee member are encouraged to consider applying. Effective committee members present and review information impartially, listen to and understand various points of view, and offer unique perspectives. The LAC Operating Procedures document further outlines the roles and responsibilities of members and the selection process. Interested parties are encouraged to attend the spring meeting of the Local Advisory Committee for their site of interest. The spring meeting for the Bald Head Woods Reserve is on April 20, 2021, an access link to the meeting can be found HERE.

New Cell Tower – Crown Castle is expected to return to Bald Head Island to re-start construction on the new cell tower beginning on April 16, 2021. Work on the tower will continue through May 23rd with the goal of removing heavy equipment off the island by May 24, 2021. They plan to suspend work through Memorial Day and return on June 7, 2021, to finish up. Please note that the installation of the service provider equipment (AT&T, US Cellular, Verizon) will be phased over from the old tower. The timing of the installation for each provider is yet to be determined. The Village will provide updates as they become available. Village Council Meeting – The next Village Council meeting will be next Friday, April 16, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will take place in the multi-purpose room at the Public Safety Building. The agenda will be posted HERE.
COVID-19 Update – Governor Cooper’s latest Executive Order took effect on March 26, 2021, and will be in effect through April 30, 2021. The state’s general mask mandate remains in effect. Read the Order’s FAQs HERE. As of April 7, 2021, anyone 16 and older in North Carolina will be eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
