Siren Test – Duke Energy will be testing sirens around Brunswick Nuclear Plant. A five to 30-second full-volume test is scheduled between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2023. No public action is required. More info HERE.
WHMP Update – Marinex started pumping sand on South Beach on Friday, December 9, 2022, and closed down for about six days over the holiday. The disposal and construction area is currently located just west of Beach Access # 13. The estimated project completion date has been moved to April 3, 2023. Please help the construction crew by being mindful of the construction fencing and signage. Do not go beyond any signage or barriers as doing so may place yourself and others in harm’s way. More information on this project, including a progress map and regular updates, can be found on the Village’s website HERE.
NCUC Ruling – In case you missed Mayor Quinn’s recent announcement, the NC Utilities Commission ruled favorably on the Village’s petition asking for Commission regulation of the parking and barge operations serving the Island (NCUC’s order here). In this order, the Commission agreed with the Village’s position – also supported by the Club and the Association, and numerous individuals – that the Commission has regulatory authority over parking and the barge, in addition to the ferry/tram service. As a result of this order, there is unlikely to be any immediate change to parking and barge operations. Still, the order ensures that the complete, consolidated transportation system will be subject to regulatory oversight in the public interest so long as the system is owned privately. The NCUC must approve SharpVue’s proposed acquisition of the system. A hearing on this has been continued to a yet to be determined date.
