Winter Weather Advisory

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for NE SC and SE NC through tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 10:00 a.m. The key messages from the National Weather Service Wilmington Office’s latest briefing are:

  • Freezing rain is expected to bring some accumulations of ice across portions of northeast SC and southeast NC as rain changes to freezing rain from north to south this evening.
  • The freezing rain and icing will result in hazardous driving conditions, especially across bridges, overpasses, and other elevated road surfaces.
  • An arctic air mass will spread over the region, bringing very cold temperatures to the area, especially Thursday night and Friday night- protect people, pets, pipes, and plants from the cold. Thursday night will feel colder than Friday night due to wind chill.

Village Operations for 2/20

Village offices will be closed on Thursday, 2/20 with office staff working remotely.  This includes Public Safety administration.  Please call 911 if you need a Public Safety Officer to come to you. The Island Package Center and Post Office will be operating on regular hours (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.). This is subject to change if ferry service is impacted.

Operations are expected to return to normal for all departments on Friday, 2/21.

2025 CSDR Project Update

The contractor removing and replacing the soft-tube groins completed this work on 2/16/2025. The Dredge Savannah was down today for a shoreline repair.  Sand placement stopped in front of the Captain Charlie’s cottages (Captain Charlies Ct). The current estimated completion date of the project is March 10, 2025, but it is subject to change due to possible weather and mechanical delays. For more information about this project go to our project webpage HERE.
