Public Safety Director ~ The Village of Bald Head Island is currently accepting applications for the position of Public Safety Director. The Public Safety Director is responsible for managing a team that provides law enforcement, water rescue, emergency services and fire services to the residents and visitors of Bald Head Island housed in our new state of the art multifunctional Public Safety Center. The Public Safety Director also has a unique opportunity to collaborate with Dosher Hospital, located in Southport NC, in the seasonal partnership the Village of Bald Head Island has in offering an 0n-site walk-in medical clinic during peak summer months.
We are seeking a progressive leader who has the demonstrated skill set to work with a diverse, high functioning department of 24 Public Safety Officers. Proactively lead, develop and support a knowledgeable staff to achieve excellence through; increased training, responsibility, productivity, morale and retention. Develop and modify programs, projects and policies. Prepare state, federal and local reports along with budget development and management. Model courteous engagement and outstanding customer service. Impeccable integrity and proven records of consistency in managing both internal and external relationships. A proven track record of Public Safety success that comes from a balance of engagement and enforcement.
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Fire Science, Public Administration Emergency Services or related field and completion of advanced courses in fire science, EMS, Police Science and supervision and certification as a law enforcement officer in NC. A minimum of five years of management experience of an increasingly responsible nature. extensive experience supervising a staff within a cross sectional service environment. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of police methods, fire safety and emergency medicine. Requires certification as a Police Officer through the Criminal Justice Education and Standards Commission of North Carolina. Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently and 20 pounds constantly. Must possess the visual acuity to analyze data, perform computer work, and extensive reading including the ability to distinguish people and objects at emergency scenes.
Hiring range: $76,808 – $96,011 based on qualifications and experience. Village benefits include 5% 401k contribution; NC Local Government Employees Retirement System enrollment, retiring officer separation allowance, medical, dental, life and paid vacation and sick leave. Finance Director ~ The Village of Bald Head Island is looking for a dynamic individual to be a part of our management team serving the residents and visitors of Bald Head Island. Bald Head Island is an incorporated Village on the east side of the Cape Fear River in Brunswick County NC and is only accessible by ferry from Southport. Bald Head Island is desired by those who are looking to relax and enjoy life at a pace that encompasses pristine beaches, a maritime forest and close-knit community lifestyle. How will we know you are qualified? You have management experience as a Finance Director providing oversight and direction in the functional areas of general accounting, payroll, purchasing operations, risk management, capital budget administration and leading and supervising a staff. Minimum qualifications include a BS in accounting or business and considerable experience leading and directing complex financial activities. A CPA and/or Finance Officer Certification strongly preferred. Salary range $66,350 – $82,938 with comprehensive benefits package. Public Services Director ~ The Village of Bald Head Island is looking for an experienced professional to direct the municipal services of Village’s Public Works Department in addition to collaborating with the Public Utilities Department which is responsible for waterline and distribution infrastructure in addition to the Wastewater Treatment facility.
This position performs professional and administrative work in budget development and management, directing and overseeing stormwater management, roadway, facility and grounds maintenance, contractor services and recommending long range plans and strategies for meeting citizen service needs. Must have demonstrated experience as an effective leader and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders on the Island.
Associate degree in civil or environmental engineering, public administration or related field and three to five years in responsible management position in public services or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering preferred.
Anticipated Hiring range: $63,190 – $78,988 based on qualifications. The Village provides a comprehensive benefit and retirement package including contributions to a 401k plan and the Local Government Retirement System.
