BACKGROUND:

Zachary Hewett was hired as the Village’s Finance Director in July 2020. Hewett is a native of Brunswick County.  He attended East Carolina University both as an undergraduate and a graduate where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Economics, a Graduate Certificate in Management Information Systems, and a Master of Business Administration.  He also has completed numerous continuing education courses at the University of North Carolina’s School of Government including the Municipal and County Administration Course in 2017.

Zack brings over seven years of experience in local government prior to his appointment with the Village.  Most recently he worked for the City of Randleman, North Carolina.  In Randleman, he initially served as the Finance Director and was promoted to City Manager, a role he successfully filled for two and a half years.  During his tenure as Manager, Randleman saw residential, organizational, and industrial growth, received multiple state grants for infrastructure improvements, received two Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards from the Government Finance Officers Association, and much more.

Hewett started his local government career serving as the finance officer for BHM Regional Library, a library system in eastern North Carolina serving Beaufort, Hyde, and Martin counties. 

Hewett is a certified local government finance officer (CLGFO), an achievement that indicates he has met or exceeded a combination of professional experience and educational requirements.  He is also a member of the North Carolina Local Government Finance Officers’ Association, the North Carolina Local Government Budget Officers’ Association, the International City Managers’ Association, and the North Carolina City and County Management Association, where he currently serves as the liaison for the Collaboration with MPA Programs Committee for East Carolina University.

In January of 2022, Zack was announced as a recipient of ECU’s 40 Under Forty Leadership Award, which is given out annually to 40 East Carolina University alumni who have made significant impacts in their respective professions, local communities, and the world. (Media Release)


VILLAGE ROLE:

The Finance Director is a member of the Village’s management team.  Under the supervision of the Village Manager, this position provides oversight and direction in the functional areas of general accounting, payroll, purchasing operations, risk management, capital budget administration, leading and supervising staff, and more.
