Village Council Regular Meeting
The Village Council conducted its last regular meeting on Friday, October 17, 2025.
Below are a few of the actions taken:
- Under the consent agenda, the Village Council adopted the Veterans Day 2025 proclamation.
- Village Council conducted a public hearing on an amendment to the code of ordinances, increasing the maximum clearing height at Village roads. The amendment passed unanimously.
- Village Council opened a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the budget ordinance fee schedule, ICE fees. The hearing was continued until the November 21 Council meeting, so additional work can be done to increase the impact of the fees on the size/type of vehicles used on BHI.
- Village Council unanimously approved a subdivision request by Bald Head Island Limited, LLC to subdivide two parcels at the BHI Marina.
Village Staff reported on:
- The hiring of a new Fire & EMS Deputy Chief, Buddy Brooks,
- The Frying Pan Shoals borrow site permit,
- Collaboration with the BHI Club on irrigation & stormwater improvements during club renovations,
- Upcoming road paving & tree cutting,
- The wastewater treatment plant expansion,
- Creek access ramp maintenance,
- The Lift station upgrade project,
- Deer management,
- Army Corps of Engineers feasibility study & supplemental work/funding agreement,
- Beach bonfire season (we are almost ready to accept permit applications online!),
- And more!
A full recap with additional details is posted monthly on our website HERE. You can also listen to a podcast episode recapping the meeting HERE.
A full account of these meetings can be found in the minutes, which are posted HERE. Typically, minutes are posted with the agenda of next month’s meeting (e.g., if you want to read the December meeting minutes, they can be found under the January regular meeting agenda).
Annual Change from Chloramines to Chlorine
Village Utilities changed its disinfection method for water from chloramines to chlorine earlier this week. Along with this change, they will be blowing out dead ends to “burn out” the free chlorine. This may cause some ponding on Village roads. Consumers may notice some discoloration, which can be cleared by running outside spigots. Call (910) 457-9700 ext. 1000 for assistance.
Brunswick County Public Utilities previously announced that they would be changing over on October 7, 2025. These conditions are not harmful and are temporary.
For more information, view the County’s full statement HERE and the Village’s full notice HERE.
2025 Municipal Election
The Village has a webpage on elections (HERE).
Early voting for the 2025 municipal election is underway and ends on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The Board of Elections is posting voter turnout statistics on its website daily HERE.

Yard Debris Pick Up
Yard debris pickup goes to a once-a-month schedule from November through March. The next pickup is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5, 2025. If you need your waste picked up, you must submit a pick-up request via our online service request portal (HERE) or by calling customer service at (910) 457-9700 ext. 1000 no later than 2:00 p.m. on the day before the scheduled pick-up.
A few reminders:
- This service is for property owners who do their own yard work. If you use a contactor, they are responsible for removing debris.

- Do not cover water meters or any other utility infrastructure.
- The Village will not accept limbs larger than 6 inches at the largest point.
