A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Bald Head Island area. The National Weather Service Wilmington office has begun issuing advisories for Potential Tropical Cyclone 16 which is expected to bring tropical storm impacts to the BHI area through Saturday.
Predicted impacts include rough surf and rip currents (today through Saturday), localized heavy rainfall (rain will increase across the area today and increase more Friday into Saturday), and gusty winds (to increase during Friday and persist into Saturday).
The latest briefing can be viewed HERE. NWS Wilmington anticipates another briefing around 5 p.m. today.
Because of the wind associated with this system, it is advised that property owners tie down outdoor items.
These weather conditions could have an impact on ferry service. Please check the Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc. website HERE for any announcements. The barge may be disrupted or cancelled tomorrow depending on conditions. This could affect the delivery of packages to the island tomorrow.
Village offices may be affected tomorrow (Friday, 9/22). Staffing may transition to essential-only if conditions worsen as the storm approaches given potential impacts to the ferry system.
