Independence Day Details
Ferry Schedule – Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc. released its 4th of July weekend ferry service notice; you can view it HERE. They will be operating double boats on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Due to the fireworks display in the waters off Southport on the 4th, the ferry will not be running from 8:30 p.m. till 10:00 p.m.
Parade Traffic – Old Baldy’s annual Fourth of July Golf Cart Parade begins at 10:00 a.m. sharp on Saturday, July 4. The parade route is shown below. In past years, the parade has impacted traffic, especially on the way to the marina, causing some folks to miss ferry reservations. Please take traffic delays into account as you make your plans for Saturday. More info HERE.

Parade Etiquette – Spectators are encouraged to treat the parade participants respectfully and refrain from spraying them with water or throwing objects as they pass by, and vice versa for parade participants.
Dangerous Heat Expected – The National Weather Service has forecast increasing heat and humidity this week, with dangerous heat, near record levels, likely late in the week (Thursday into Independence Day on Saturday). Please prepare for these conditions. Don’t take the heat conditions as permission to spray people with water without their consent during the Golf Cart Parade!

Clean Up – Volunteer for Red, White & Clean! – The Plastic Ocean Project, BHI Conservancy, Bald Head Association, and Old Baldy Foundation have teamed up to organize an island cleanup that will take place immediately after the Golf Cart Parade. Giveaway prizes will be given at the 1:45 p.m. weigh-in and each volunteer will receive an eco-friendly waterproof sticker, entry into the prize giveaway, and cleanup supplies. This event includes the opportunity for BHI to turn trash into trees through Plastic Ocean’s Trees4Trash initiative, where every 25 pounds of litter collected helps fund the planting of a tree or native marsh plant on BHI.

NO FIREWORKS ON BHI – The possession and use of fireworks is prohibited on BHI. This includes sparklers. Area fireworks should be visible from some areas of the BHI shoreline; the west end of South Beach and West Beach tend to be the best spots. ENJOY!
Offices Closed – Village offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026, in observance of Independence Day. This DOES NOT include the Island Package Center and Post Office. Please call 911 if you need a Public Safety Officer to come to you.
IPC/PO Schedule – To allow for USPS packages to be delivered on Friday, July 3, the Island Package Center and Post Office will be OPEN on Friday, July 3, but will be CLOSED on Saturday, July 4. The last FedEx and UPS packages are expected to be delivered by barge on Thursday, July 2. USPS packages will be coming to the island via passenger ferry on Friday, July 3.

Drought Conditions Prompt Burn Ban & Stage 2 Water Conservation Alert
Water Conservation Alert – On Friday, June 26, Brunswick County elevated to a Stage 2 Water Conservation Alert to ensure adequate water is available for essential needs. This water conservation alert affects customers of several public water systems in Brunswick County, including Village of Bald Head Island Utilities. It requires water customers to only use their irrigation systems between the hours of 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on their respective days (this includes irrigation for residential lawns, landscaping, athletic fields, golf courses that do not use private groundwater wells or reclaimed water, etc.):
- All address numbers: No irrigation on Mondays
- Odd address numbers*: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday (only between 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.)
- Even address numbers: Wednesday, Friday, Sunday (only between 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.)
- *Non-addressed facilities may irrigate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays (only between 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.)
A key difference between the Stage 1 Voluntary Water Conservation Alert and the Stage 2 MANDATORY Water Conservation Alert is that non-compliance may result in the assessment of significant fees and possible discontinuation of water service. More information HERE.
Burn Ban – Coinciding with Brunswick County’s recent burn ban, the Village of Bald Head Island is currently under a burn ban. All burning within 100 ft. of any structure is banned on BHI. The ban does not apply to charcoal or gas grills, provided fire safety precautions are taken. Grilling safety tips can be found HERE.
Beach Access #7 is Back Open
Beach Access 7, off Green Teal Trail, was closed last week so that repairs could be made. High tides had compromised the steps on the beach side of the access. Repairs have been made, and the access is now open.
Yard Debris
Public Works is a little behind in picking up yard debris due to equipment issues. They are working with half the equipment they normally use, and it is taking a little longer. As of today (6/30), they have cleared about half of the requested debris piles and will be working tomorrow and Thursday to clear the remainder. They should be back on schedule once the equipment is repaired. Thank you for your patience.

Dogs on BHI
Bald Head Island is a very dog-friendly place. However, dog owners need to follow the Village ordinances that are in place to ensure that BHI is a safe place for everyone.
One important rule is restraint. Restraining your dog is mandatory. Village Ordinance 4-521 mandates that all dogs must be restrained at all times. Unrestrained dogs are prohibited, whether due to the owner’s intentional act or omission. Restraint is defined as being under the immediate control of its owner within the boundaries of the owner’s private property or property where they are authorized to keep the animal or physically confined within a vehicle. This means that if you cannot control your dog off the leash that it should be on one especially when it could approach humans or other dogs that may be sensitive to the approach of a dog, friendly or not. In addition, regardless of your ability to control your dog off-leash, leashes are required during turtle season (May 1 to November 15) while on the beach between sunset and sunrise.
For more information about dogs on Bald Head Island, view our Dogs on BHI webpage HERE, or the Dogs on BHI section of our Visitor’s Guide HERE.
IPC Package Delays
As previously reported, Islanders should expect USPS package delays again this peak season. If you have guests and visitors who plan on utilizing the Island Package Center this season, you may want to consider reaching out to them to let them know of the delays. If they are only staying for one week, it may be presumptuous to expect a delivery during their stay. More details HERE.

July 9 Town Hall Meeting
