Idalia is making its way out to sea and according to the latest update it appears the storm turned east sooner than expected so conditions should improve before noon today. Our Public Safety Officers are out surveying initial damage and debris and so far, reports are indicating the island looks good.
The BHI Club’s weather station is reading that the island received 2.39 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.
The US Coast Guard has not re-opened the river and as soon as the Village receives information regarding re-opening and when ferry service resumes, we will relay that message. This is the latest from Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc.:
7:49 AM – Ferry service remains suspended as Tropical Storm IDALIA impacts the area. We will be monitoring conditions, Coast Guard direction and coordinating with the Village of Bald Head Island to determine when service may be safely resumed. Please continue to monitor the Bald Head Island Ferry app and baldheadislandferry.com for website updates.
Power is on for the entire island and all utilities are working normally. When the river opens our Public Services personnel will be on the first boat over to get the roads cleared of debris and perform any other recovery work.
If you are out and about today and see our crews working, please use an alternate route to avoid the vehicles and heavy machinery, this will help keep everyone safe and will speed up the recovery process. The main roads are a priority. Please drive carefully as the roads are slick, and there will be ponding in some areas.
