Prepare for Freezing Temperatures

According to the National Weather Service Wilmington office, today will be the coldest winter day thus far, with highs in the low 40s.  It will be a little warmer tomorrow and Friday, but temperatures are expected to be even colder over the weekend with lows on Sunday morning in the mid/upper teens. The Village wants to make sure you are prepared for these freezing conditions.

Please review our tips for preventing and thawing frozen pipes HERE.  While the Village is not recommending it, a few of our customers have had their service disconnected as a precaution. If you have had your water service disconnected in the past, you must let the Utilities Department know by Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. The Village will not do disconnects after hours or on weekends and holidays.  A reconnection fee of $63.96 will apply if you disconnect your service.

Other winter weather tips include:

  • Preparing your home to keep out the cold with insulation, caulking, and weather stripping.
  • Making sure carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms are working.
  • Gathering supplies in case you need to stay home for several days without power (medication, pet supplies, extra batteries, radios, flashlights, blankets, etc.)
