This past Monday and Tuesday; the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, Village Manager, and Assistant Village manager joined our lobbyists to bring the Village’s interests to D.C. The focus of their efforts was to draw attention to the demands of our Waste Water Treatment Plant expansion, future coastal storm damage reduction strategies, and road paving and repair projects. In addition to meeting with the offices of Senator Tillis, Senator Budd, and Representative Rouzer they held discussions with the House and the Senate Appropriations Committees and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
These efforts are important and can be critical in securing potential federal funding for these types of projects. A perfect example is the recent $4.5M the Village secured for the upcoming 2025 coastal storm damage reduction project. Just as critical was the opportunity to continue to voice our support of federal appropriations for the Wilmington Harbor Navigation Channel and US Army Corps of Engineers maintenance dredging which places sand on the Village’s shoreline as it did most recently in 2021 and 2023.
