The latest briefing from National Weather Service Wilmington indicates dangerous, near-record cold temperatures/wind chills are expected between Monday through Thursday in our area. Confidence continues to increase regarding the potential for wintry precipitation Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning, although snow/ice amounts are still uncertain and will be highly dependent on the track/evolution of the storm.
NWS Wilmington is encouraging people to closely follow this developing winter weather situation, use credible sources of information, and prepare for an extended period of cold weather.
Guidance for Islanders
- Islanders should stay up to date on the latest weather forecast.
- Islanders should take measures to protect pipes, as they are at risk of freezing any time temperatures drop below 32°F or 0°C. View some tips HERE.
- Islanders should safely heat their homes. Housefires and carbon monoxide are two of the greatest risks for personal injury and even death. View some tips HERE.

Village Operations
- Village offices are closed on Monday, January 20, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
- We will be monitoring the forecast and will notify Islanders of any delays or closures. As always, call 911 if you need a Public Safety Officer to come to you.
- Village staff have begun attending conference calls with Brunswick County Emergency Management and community and regional partners.
