BHITA Forum
Project Longevity hosted a Bald Head Island Transportation Authority Forum on Monday, May 18, 2026. The forum was broadcast via Zoom. If you missed it, the recording has been uploaded to BHA’s YouTube and can be viewed HERE.
Dr. Rex Cowdry, vice chair of the BHITA, clarified that the public authority remains the preferred alternative to private equity ownership to ensure long-term stability and that negotiations are ongoing for the BHITA to operate the transportation system. He presented details of a lease-to-own strategy for system assets, which aims to minimize immediate debt while navigating current high interest rates and operational costs. The meeting underscored a collaborative effort between the current owners and the authority to secure a sustainable legacy for BHI’s future.
During the forum, Mayor Quinn stated that the Village is behind this effort and that the whole community is ready for a solution. He said the approach that is being taken is a good one and a viable one.
