BHI Area Under Tropical Storm Warning

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Bald Head Island area. The National Weather Service Wilmington office has begun issuing advisories for Potential Tropical Cyclone 8 which is expected to bring tropical storm impacts to the BHI area tomorrow (Monday, 9/16).

The latest briefing can be viewed HERE. NWS Wilmington anticipates another briefing at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow.

Because of the wind gusts associated with this system, it is advised that property owners tie down outdoor items.  Downed limbs and some downed trees are expected along with some power outages (guidance on power outages HERE).

As of 9:30 this morning, the island had received 3.82 inches of rainfall from the offshore low-pressure system in the previous 24-hour period.  The Village and the BHI Club have been monitoring the lagoon levels and will continue to coordinate as NWS is predicting another 3-6 inches.

These weather conditions could have an impact on ferry service.  Please check the Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc. website HERE and the app for any announcements.  The barge may be disrupted or cancelled tomorrow depending on conditions.  This could affect the delivery of packages to the island.

Village offices may be affected tomorrow (Monday, 9/16). Staffing may transition to essential-only if conditions worsen as the storm approaches given potential impacts to the ferry system.

Please stay connected to your trusted weather source to monitor this developing weather situation.
