Isaias Update #10

POST STORM

Damage Assessment ongoing – The Village’s Damage Assessment Team (DAT) began its assessment of the island today.  No flood damage observed, large amounts of trees, limbs, and branches are down, mostly minor roof, door, and window damage caused by falling trees and limbs.  A few structures in the area of the presumed tornado (Middle Sound) have major structural damage. The DAT will resume its assessment tomorrow.

Roads – All major wynds have been cleared (vegetation pushed to the side).  Some secondary roads were completed as well. Crews will be out again all day tomorrow to clear roads.

Village Offices – Village offices will open at normal hours tomorrow.  The Island Package Center/Post Office will open normally. Please note, mail delivery from Southport has been delayed.

Power – Power has been restored to most of the island.  Approximately 125 customers are still without power in the Villas, off Black Skimmer, and Mourning Warbler.  Duke outage map HERE.

Swimming not advised for Brunswick Beaches – Brunswick County beaches, including Bald Head Island, are under a precautionary advisory due to the conditions from Isaias which could cause increased levels of harmful bacteria in our coastal waters that can cause illness.  More information about the advisory HERE.
