The Village is monitoring Tropical Storm Idalia, a system that is expected to become a hurricane today while moving north across the northwest Caribbean Sea and eastern Gulf of Mexico. After landfall in Florida late Tuesday night or early Wednesday, Idalia is expected to move close to the Georgia and South Carolina coast Wednesday into Thursday. Tropical storm force winds are expected to arrive in the eastern Carolinas by Wednesday evening.
Potential impacts include:
- Heavy rainfall, potentially causing flooding
- Gusty winds exceeding 39 mph (tropical storm force)
- Rip currents at the beaches
- Isolated tornadoes or waterspouts
- Large seas across the coastal waters
Be prepared for possible impacts to ferry operations. The Village will share any updates it receives from Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc.
Because of the wind associated with this system, it is advised that property owners tie down outdoor items. Please stay connected to your trusted weather source for further developments and remain cautious as conditions could become increasingly hazardous.
