Impacts on Transportation
According to National Weather Service Wilmington, areas of Brunswick County received between 1.9 and 5 inches of snowfall since yesterday.
While the clouds associated with the winter storm have shifted off the coast, low temperatures are expected to remain which will cause melting snow to quickly refreeze once the sun sets, leading to icy roads and walkways tonight and tomorrow morning. Local officials are advising folks in Brunswick County to stay off the roads if possible.
Bald Head Island Transportation, Inc. suspended ferry service today and according to the latest message (below), interruptions are likely to continue tomorrow (1/23):
Due to hazardous road conditions and our commitment to the safety of our staff and customers, we will not be operating on January 22, 2025. Service interruptions are expected to continue into January 23, 2025, with potential delays as we resume operations. Please monitor our app and website for the latest updates.
