The Development Services Administrator is in the office for plan reviews and code questions weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and other times by appointment only.
Department Info
The Development Services Administrator provides professional planning and building inspection services to the residents of Bald Head Island as well as the many boards, committees, other Village Departments, and Village Council.
The Development Services Administrator meets with prospective developers, interprets Village ordinances, regulations, policies, reviews project submittals and enforces applicable Village Ordinances to ensure a quality of life for all residents while assuring that future land development does not have an adverse impact on the Village’s most valuable resources.
The Development Services Administrator also performs all required inspections to ensure compliance with local ordinances and North Carolina building codes.
Building Permits: No person, firm or corporation shall erect, construct, enlarge, install, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert, or demolish any building, structure, or service system within the Village’s jurisdiction without first applying for and obtaining a permit for such work. [G.S. 143-138(b), 153A-357, 160A-417]
When the General Statutes require that general construction, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or gas work be performed by an appropriately licensed individual, no permit for such work shall be issued to an unlicensed person or firm. No permit for a building intended for rent, lease, or sale will be issued to an unlicensed person or firm.
On Bald Head Island, most residential homes must also meet the guidelines of the property owners’ association (most homes are within the Bald Head Association POA). In November 2023, the Village adopted design standards for commercial properties on the island.
